Top 10 best books I've ever read

I have decided that I am going to start a "Top 10" theme on my blog. Movies, books, foods, whatever comes into my vast and infinite mind. So for my first installment, I have chosen my all time favorite thing, the book. Call me what you want, but I truly believe that the best thing in the world is curling up on a rainy day and getting lost in the world of fiction. I can't remember who said it, but there is a saying that says "You know when you've read a really good book when you turn the last page and feel as though you've lost a very good friend." So without further ado, I present the Top 10 Best Books I've Ever Read...

10. You've Been Warned by James Patterson This book is by far one of the weirdest I've ever read. It's literally a grabbing-your-seat, trying-to-force-yourself-not-to-read-ahead kind of book. Dead father, hearing voices, and a forbidden affair...does it get any better than this?

9. Bad Astronomy by Phillip Plait

Now, I'm by far the biggest nerd I've ever met, so of course a science book is going to be on my list. Plait is delightfully cynical, and refutes all of the nonsense that people come up with in regards to the infinite universe. Here he refutes "evidence" that the NASA moon landing was a fake, the "proof" of Astrology, and Hollywood's ten worst examples of really bad astronomy.
8. The Night I Disappeared by Julie Reese DeaverThis is actually a young-adult novel, and one of two Julie Reece Deaver books that are on my list. Jamie is best friends with Webb, a guy who is always there for her, and she seems to be falling for him. And it's not until she has to move halfway across the country from him that she realizes that Webb isn't exactly who he says he is....... A not-so-typical teen novel that, even though I'm way too old for it, it is still a huge joy to read (and reread).

7. A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier by Ishmael BeahBy far one of the most disturbing books I've ever read, while still being deep and staying with me long after I finished it. His brutal honesty, and the imagery he uses in his writing make you feel as though you're there with him doing the corrupt government's bidding, wielding AK-47s, and stuffing yourself full of the drugs that they said were good for you. A wonderful book about redemption, survival, and hope.
6. Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult
Another pretty disturbing book. It tells the story of an outcast; a boy who was made fun of his whole life, and then suffered the ultimate betrayal by his bast friend. He finally had had enough, and went on a Columbine-style shooting spree, shooting everyone he thought was responsible for his depression. The ending, however, will blow your mind.... Definitely a must-read.

5. Wildwood by Drusilla CampbellThis book is totally my best friend and I when we get older. Hahaha. Thirty years ago, after no longer being able to handle the sexual advances of her trashy neighbor, Hannah pushes him actidentally over a cliff to his death. Hannah and her two best friends swear never to mention it again. No one in the town was particularly upset about this, so the police let it go as an accident. The nightmare of that day reverberates throughout the lives of the three friends, until one of them is no longer able to hold the silence. A wonderful book about the power of friendship and forgiveness.

4. Say Goodnight, Gracie by Julie Reece Deaver

I am a girl of my word, and this is the second Julie Reece Deaver book on my list. Again, this is a young adult novel, but I could still read this book and love it as much as I did when I was 13. To this day, it is the one of only two books that has made me cry. Morgan (The Night I Disappeared) is the main character of this book, and she and her best friend, Jimmy have been inseperable since birth. But when Jimmy is killed by a drunk driver, she has to teach herself how to live her life without him.

3. The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls

Alas, this is the second book that has made me cry. If you really love your father, and he is your hero like mine is, it will make you cry too. 100% money back guarantee. Jeanette Walls and her family bounce around the country, running from the creditors (or the landlord) when they come calling. Her father is a drunk, but in her eyes, he is a superhero. Untimately they move in with his mother, who is horrible, and Jeanette and her brother run away to New York and make their dreams come true. Her parents follow them, and end up homeless (and happy). I'm not going to spoil the ending, but I can promise you that this book will stay with you for a long time after you close it.

2. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince by J.K. RowlingAgain, being the nerd that I am, I had to put my all time favorite fictional character on my list. Yes my friends, the phenomenon of Harry Potter. I love these books so much that I did a research paper my sophmore year in college about him. This book in particular is one of my favorites. The more the series progressed, the more dark and adult-like the books became. Dumbledore dying?? I mean come on! Who was expecting that?? Definitely not me.

And now, the Number One all time best book I've ever read........

1. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Another Harry Potter!!! I'm truly sorry if you don't like the Harry Potter series, but no lie, this is the best book I have ever, ever, ever read. I (refer to nerd comment above) love the mythology and symbolism that this book offers. Kids read it thinking it's just a really good book, and little do they know that its chocked full of smart stuff too! J.K. Rowling is just a genius. I give her serious props for coming up with a series that goes as deep as this one does. If you haven't read it, I strongly urge you to do so immediately, or bad things will happen. (Ok that's not true, but seriously, you should totally read it.)

And that concludes the Top Ten Best Books Ever According to Me. Hope you enjoyed!

America's government is incompetent!

So today, I tried to fill out a loan application so I can pay for my classes that start in August. Come to find out, I have to fill out an Appeal of Loan Limits Application, because apparently I've taken out too much money to pay for school.
What do you expect me to do?!?!
How do you expect me to pay for college?? Because last time I checked you incompetent morons, it actually costs a lot of money to go to college. You preach to us that a college education is important for our future, then you complain and moan that I'm taking too much of your money!!! You spend 40 billion dollars on stupid crap, like fruit fly sex research, or watching a pig while she's pregnant, or universal health care, and you wonder why you have no money!!!!!
I need this money to get the college education you have been preaching to me all my life! Not the stupid fruit flies, or pregnant pigs, or Nancy Pelosi, or the stupid laws that you enact every single day! When will you people realize that pretty much the entire country thinks you guys suck! Every one of you is nothing more than an arrogant, egotistical, shallow, greedy, power-hungry, lying politician!

Every one of you!!!!!
I have come to my wits end listening to you people make fools of yourselves on public television, spending my very hard earned money, and my parent's, and my fiancee's, and the rest of America! I complained when Universal Health Care was passed, and the absolutely retarded Appropriations Bill, but I absolutely can not stand for you to have your disgusting hands in my college loans!!!

Get out of office and let America be the country it used to be before you morons took over!!!!

Wedding Bells are getting closer!

Whew! I really need to start writing in this blog more often!

Well the wedding date has changed yet again to July 16th. That's like....in a month! OMG its scary but super exciting! It's just a tiny little ceremony at the courthouse, seeing as how neither one of us has the money to pay for the big wedding that we want. So we will be "getting married" again next November, after he gets back from Afghanistan. :( That gives us, my parents, and his parents a year and a half to save up the money for the wedding. The budget is 6000 dollars. If anyone has gotten married recently, then you know that this is absolutely unheard of as far as weddings go. Most people can't pull the shindig off for less than maybe 10,000 dollars at the minimum, but I'm awesome, so I am doing super cheap. :)

His aunt and uncle have generously provided a condo in Daytona Beach for the reception, my parents are paying for the wedding itself, and his parents are giving us money to help furnish our apartment. He and I have the best family around!

The officially moving to Cali on September 2nd or 3rd! YAY!!! I can't wait! It sucks so bad to live this far away from the person you love, but we're getting there! Marc is going with me, so the road trip should be oodles of fun. Hopefully the Grand Canyon is on the 10, because I would love to go back.

The job situation is still a no-go. Apparently no one has deemed me fit enough to call back. Hopefully this will change once I get to California. If anything, I can probably work for MCCS (Marine Corps Core Support) at the 7 day store or the PX or something. Apparently that's where a lot of spouses work.

I'll be back in school in August! They're all online classes with Florida State College, and this is my last semester (Thank God). I'll finally graduate in December! Then all I need is Calculus (times three) and Physics 1, 2, and 3 (BOO!!!). I suppose I'll see that Bachelors Degree someday...

And a job huntin' we go

I haven't written in a couple days, but I still have no followers, so I guess that doesn't matter much. :) Maybe someone will find this blog and deem it interesting enough to keep up with what I'm doing.

Well I haven't done much to tell the truth...
I went job hunting again a couple days ago and filled out a TON of applications, but don't think it's been long enough for any fish to bite. And I filled out a bunch of paperwork with a temp agency like three weeks ago, but I still haven't heard anything. :( I really want to find one but since I don't technically have any formal education yet because I haven't graduated, the pickings are slim. The unemployment rate here in Nassau County is like 30 percent, or something ridiculous.

Darren and my parents are going to help me out if I can't find one, but I really want that to be a last case scenario. I understand we're getting married, but we're not yet, and I don't want him to feel obligated to do any of this.

IN OTHER NEWS....

The date for the justice of the peace is August 20th, but now we're discussing something earlier, like mid-July or something. I vote sooner :) I want to move out there! It sucks living three thousand miles away from the man you're going to marry. But we'll get there soon. No reason to worry, it does nothing but kill you :)

As for the big wedding, we have no official date yet, just a ball park estimate. Right now it's somewhere between November and December of next year. Which is kinda crappy because I'm afraid it's going to be cold. Does it even get cold in Beaufort, South Carolina? I hope not because Darren wants it outside. I'm excited, the wedding planning gives me something to do to keep me busy while he's in Afghanistan :(. Ugh that's what I get for marrying a marine. But I can't complain because I knew what I was getting myself into. It's just one of the downsides right now, or at least until this war ends.

Brand-spankin new at this...

Ok so this is my attempt at writing again. See I used to write (and very well I might add), but it seems to me that one day it just POOF! went away. I actually can't stand to write , but I think that my hating-writing-syndrome only rears its ugly head when the college wants me to write something...hmm I might have something on my hands there...

Anyway back to my point...

I ask all of my zero followers to please bear with me if my writing skills suck. Just don't tell me they do. Nod your head, smile, and lie and tell me that I am the next Ernest Hemingway.

So what exactly to write?
H
M
M
M....

I guess I can blog all about the last two (very busy) weeks in the life of Kylie Soon-to-be-Bolling. Well, on the 26th or so of May I went down to St. Pete Beach in my amazing home state of Florida with my mother on one of her oh-so-important work conferences. (No really, they are actually important...they give my mother the proof she needs to tell people that she's the big-wig in the county that she actually is. If only she did that.) St. Pete was amazing; I've officially decided that's where the big wedding is going to be next November. Its like a slightly bigger version of downtown Myrtle Beach.
Well anyway, I spent three incredible days at the beach, walking around the hotel (because I didn't know how to get anywhere and I am terrified of getting lost), basking in the amazing Florida sunshine, and eating cannolis with my mother in the living room of the hotel suite watching Sex and the City the Movie.
Well the day after I got back from St. Pete Beach I flew out to Los Angeles to see my amazing boyfriend (he was actually my boyfriend at the time, not my fiancee). He was having family issues, and he needed me, and me being the Queen of all girlfriends, I flew out to see him. We spent four days together, walked all around the lovely (not) neighborhood of Inglewood, and discovering my brand new hatred for all things Los Angeles.

In all actuality, I thought I had accidentally gotten on the wrong plane and landed in Mexico. No, seriously, I did. The only three restaurants around the high-class Comfort Inn and Suites (hahahahaha) that we had a choice to eat at was El Pollo Loco, some Hawaiian BBQ joint, and another mexican place. I just thank the dear Lord that I adore all things Mexican food or else I would have been in Hell.

The trip was an overall success, if I do say so myself. The night after I flew in, Darren put a blindfold on me, stuck us both on a cab, and one 25 dollar cab ride later, we were on Manhattan Beach. Right there, under the California sunset, he got down on one knee, and asked me to be his wife.

(This is where I laugh and tell you that I was lying)

He really did ask me to marry him, but it was at the Comfort Inn. It was sunset though. (I love you Darren!) If he and I had more money, I'm sure, no I'm positive, that it actually would have happened on the beach. I only know this because he told me his elaborate plan after he already asked me and we were both laughing hysterically at the fact that it happened in Little Mexico in a 60 dollar a night hotel room.

And the cab ride wasnt a lie either. Although it was only 17 dollars, not 25, and it wasn't to Manhattan Beach. Well gee, I guess it was a lie. Anyway, we proceeded to try and explore more about the neighborhood we were staying in, so we had the front desk lady call us a cab. Well the cab driver didn't speak English, and we were trying to tell him that we just wanted to go to a mall or something where we could get out of the room for a bit and walk around without fear of being shot. Well we must have said something right because he said "yes yes!" and started driving. He dropped us off like a mile and a half (and 17 dollars) down the road from our hotel, at the Sepulveda Plaza or something like that. But we didn't check the time before we left, and after our ride drove away, we realized everything was closed. Well out of respect for each other, we pretended not to notice for a few steps, and then we called each other idiots.

BUT! We found a movie theater! And Shrek 4 was playing, and me being the two year-old that I am, I begged him to see it with me. It was hilarious! I'm recommending to all persons under the age of 85 to see that movie immediately. (Do the roar!) OMG kids movies are the all time greatest.

WHEW! I'm tired just relaying my two weeks on here...and I'm still not done! Bear with me, I'm almost there. OK...so two days after I came home from LA, my new FIANCEE (I love saying that) flew out here so that he and I could drive up to his parent's house in Jacksonville, NC.

By the way...anyone that's ever made that drive can vouch for me that it is incredibly long. Ugh. But we spent two days out there with his parents, then drove back and spent two days with my parents. Overall it was a good trip. At least I got to see him twice in a week. That's amazing for us, believe me. I showed off my ring (which is absolutely beautiful! I promise the ring doesn't match the engagement. Again, I love you Darren.) And my boyfriend has great taste in diamonds, let me tell you. Although that may be because he called me a while ago and tried to be discreet when he randomly threw in the question "Ummmmm, whats your favorite cut of diamond?" Discreet baby, discreet. Ahh and my favorite two days later, "Baby? Whats your ring size?" HAHA I love him. He tries to keep secrets, he just sucks at it.

Holy cow I didn't realize how long this thing was going to be. I apologize immensely to all of you for having to read my rambling. Although seeing as how I actually have no followers yet, I don't actually have anyone to apologize to. So I take it back from no one! Mwah hahahaha! Yeaaaa......I'm going to say tata for now.
